Why does my freestyle glucose meter keep giving me different readings?

i mean very off readings! one min. it will be 94 then 30 seconds later it was 239? I just complained to abbott two days ago and they sent me new monitor and strips yet it is doing the same thing. Could i be doing something wrong?
Answer:
Technique is very important when using a fingerstick device. Tissue and other elements can dilute or concentrate the blood and give very different results.Try using a bigger lancet and don't try to "milk" the blood from your finger. You really need a free flowing drop to test. Also, try wiping the first drop off and use the second drop that comes out, you should see more consistent results.Good luck and God bless
You may not be coding the machine correctly. Your test strips should have a number on the vial that they come in. Use the C button on the machine to change the code number to the correct number. Also, be sure that your finger is completely dry (no left over water or alcohol on it). If your finger is still wet when you poke it and use the blood on the test strip, you will dilute the sample. Alot of people don't realize this.
Chances are you are doing something wrong, but it's easily fixable with a little trouble shooting. If all else fails, try the One Touch Ultra 2 or any on the One Touch products by Lifescan- if Lifescan is a product that is preferred by your insurance, you can get a free machine and your test strips will be covered at a minimum copay- hopefully.
Good luck, you'll get it!
